In conjunction with their mission, Barefoot is putting a spin on the classic tragedy of Romeo & Juliet. The show is set is Appalachia; the grudge between the Capulets and Montegues echos the long-running Hatfield-McCoy feud. The characters in Barefoot’s version of Romeo & Juliet are quick to anger and quick to violence, as they try to make their way in a harsh and uncompromising natural habitat. Set against the backdrop of Appalachia, where death lurks around every corner, the well-known tragedy of Romeo & Juliet plays out in a new setting.
