New York, NY, May 3, 2015: Barefoot Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce the first show of its third season, Romeo & Juliet. The production will take place over a two-week period, with all shows being performed at Summit Rock in Central Park.
Barefoot Shakespeare Company was formed three years ago by Rob Sniffin, Emily Gallagher and Courtney Moors. Barefoot’s mission is to bring Shakespeare’s work to a wide and diverse audience with a pedestrian, engaging and modern outlook on the works of the Bard. They strive to create work that is grounded, accessible and applicable and seek to approach all of Shakespeare’s texts with energy, enthusiasm and excitement.
In conjunction with their mission, Barefoot is putting a spin on the classic tragedy of Romeo &
Juliet. The show is set is Appalachia; the grudge between the Capulets and Montegues echos the long-running Hatfield-McCoy feud. The characters in Barefoot’s version of Romeo & Juliet are quick to anger and quick to violence, as they try to make their way in a harsh and uncompromising natural habitat. Set against the backdrop of Appalachia, where death lurks around every corner, the well-known tragedy of Romeo & Juliet plays out in a new setting.
The show is directed by Rob Sniffin and the cast includes both Barefoot alumni and newcomers: Taylor Del Veccio, Emily Gallagher, April Glick, Brooke Haney, James Kivlen, Clinton Powell, Jefferson Reardon, Stephen Shore, Robin Friend Stift, Emily Swan, and Rachel Weekly.
All shows will take place at Summit Rock in Central Park on the following dates and times: June 4th at 6 PM; June 5th at 6 PM; June 6th at 3 PM; June 12th at 6 PM; June 13th at 3 PM and June 14th at 3 PM.
